  • DCC April 2019 Championship Report

The DCC is proud to have an eclectic mix of people every Tuesday playing an ancient game in the modern high tech world.

We have set another attendance record for the DCC Tuesday night games. Over the course of a month, our attendance has been in the high eighties several times. This month 94 players played at least one game. That is all well and good, but I am more inclined to go by the weekly attendance as an indication of the growth of the DCC. For this month's 3rd round we paired 72 players. Nearly didn't... Read more >>

  • John Brezina at the 2019 Denver Open

The anticipation before the start of the round is always fun to photograph.

John Brezina has written a great report on his experience at the 2019 Denver Open. My first thought was; Great, I'll get to use more of the terrific pictures he takes at all the chess events he attends. "At one point I was sitting in a big comfy green chair watching Nakamura win the US Championship."

Once again we are treated to a John Brezina report from St. Louis. This time he was accompanied by Brian Wall, and later joined by Dwight Sehler and Elena Novik. I am pleased to have the privilege of selecting and captioning the pictures that Mr. Brezina took at the 2019 U.S. Championship. The heading photo is the street scene outside the St. Louis Chess Club. See all of John's... Read more >>

  • DCC March 2019 Report

"There are kids all over the world right now looking at online chess lessons because they want to be like Tani, not Kasparov or Carlsen..."

Not being a sentimental type of guy, it is hard for me to label any chess news article heartwarming. But the nationwide story of an 8-year-old Nigerian refugee, Tanitoluwa Adewumi, (he goes by the nickname, "Tani") winning his division of the New York State Championship is exactly that; Heartwarming. Emotionally uplifting. The boy and his family had immigrated to America and were... Read more >>
